Henry Paine

A master of the vision and techniques of black and white photography, Henry Paine’s works combine the values of fine art and photographic science to support his perception of the nuances of light, shape, texture and form through pictorial design.
Henry’s works are primarily drawn from the local and regional geography of California. He is fascinated by landscapes, architecture and industrial sites but also enjoys visiting botanical gardens, where he concentrates on plants such as cactus and other succulents.
After working with large- and medium-format film cameras and a darkroom for more than 40 years, Henry now uses a Canon digital single reflex camera and an Epson printer. His finished photographs are digital prints (even those that started as film negatives). They are processed to archival standards, using carbon-based pigment inks and are mounted on acid-free mat board.
