Susan Winton
Born and raised in Stockton, Susan was encouraged by her artistic grandmother to draw, paint, and explore creatively. But a fascination with small things (seeds, beads, rocks, marbles, shells), the natural world, and how things work, led her to pursue an education and career in the microbiological sciences.
After several years of laboratory work (and crafting beaded jewelry as a hobby), a return to Stockton allowed for instruction in both lamp worked beads (melting glass rods with a torch) and fusing art/dichroic glass in a kiln. She now pursues the glass arts while working part-time as an elder caregiver, and is eternally amazed at the wonderful blending of elements, both technical, creative, and serendipitous, that working with a torch and “warm glass” affords.
Quality art glass is used paired with sterling silver, gold-filled, gold/silver-plate findings, chains and spacer beads. Nickel or pewter accent beads, crystals, and glass seed beads are often incorporated as well.
Susan is a member of the Northern California Society of Glass Beadmakers (SGB NorCal) a chapter affiliated with the International SGB and is looking forward to teaching fused glass workshops, especially projects for children.
